This will be implying severe water scarcity for hundreds of millions and an eventual loss of around 6% of the country’s GDP by 2050. Droughts are becoming more frequent, creating severe problems, mainly because approx. 53% of Agriculture in India is rainfed. Web5 aug. 2024 · Way forward. The 2024 crisis is a wake-up call for Chennai and other cities in India. With cities being the powerhouse of the economy, much more is required to make them sustainable and livable. Integrated urban water management is the need of the hour, with no single effort or intervention being able to achieve long-term resilience.
